I don't know just how many of you are familiar with the concept of „third eye”, but, to make a long story short, it's something that every human being apparently has innate, namely a „psychic eye” located in the middle of one's forehead, which can see beyond the „physical” realm. However, you shouldn't expect Hammacher Schlemmer's latest device to actually shoot „ghosts”, but, nevertheless, this thing could prove to be extremely useful whenever one needs to be able to use both of his/her hands, while in the same time recording everything that's going on in front of them.
The Third Eye Video Camera presented by Hammacher Schlemmer is extremely compact and easy to carry around. With a size smaller than an average golf-ball (1.4 inches in diameter, 35 grams in weight), this tiny cam can be easily attached to a headband, providing a third eye while biking, hiking, or during other activities. The camera's sensor can actually capture video clips at 320 x 240 resolution at 30 fps, and also comes equipped with a built-in microphone, which is used for recording the necessary audio.
This rather unusual camcorder is accompanied by an 8GB microSD memory card, which is large enough to store up to 1,200 stil images and up to 6 hours of video. After being recorded, the images can be very easily transferred to a PC via the USB cable included in the package. Much like any serious camcorder out there, the Third Eye Video Camera can also be easily connected to one's widescreen HDTV, in order to view the images on a much wider display.
Furthermore, the camera sports its own built-in, rechargeable battery, which offers an estimated functioning life of up to 2.5 hours (after 8 hours of charging). It also incorporates a movement sensor, which means that it can automatically start recording only when it detects movement (in order to save some battery life).
The Third Eye Video Camera sells for somewhere around 300 US dollars, which makes it a tad too expensive for its own good, given the fact that, after all, it's just an SD camera in an ultra-portable form factor.
