Swiss watchmaker Romain Jerome has already shown the world that their creations need attention. First, we have been impressed by the $300,000 Day or Night watch and the Titanic-inspired watches. The latest from the house is the “Moon Dust-DNA” collection, which includes watches made from moon dust, parts of the Apollo 11 rocket and bits of spacesuits.
Moon Dust-DNA embodies this incredible odyssey of the conquest of space and features its main protagonists. It honors the symbol of this headlong race, distinguished by confrontation as well as occasional collaboration between the American and Soviet superpowers, whose main aim was to reach the Moon. The design of the Moon Dust-DNA collection is inspired by and incorporates the DNA heritage of the great players and major figures in the conquest of space.
This new, one of a kind collection has been launched to compete with the rivals, such as Richemont’s Vacheron Constantin and Patek Philippe. In its continued efforts to set itself apart from the hundreds of other watchmakers that feature the Swiss brand stamp, Romain Jerome has once again come up with a watch that’s less about the design, and more about what goes into its construction.
There are going to be 1969 watches made, indicating the year of Neil Armstrong’s and Buzz Aldrin’s first journey to the moon. The dials of the new watches feature tiny craters, filled with dust from the moon rock. Steel from the Apollo 11 space shuttle is used for the case, while the strap uses fibers from a spacesuit that was worn during the ISS mission.
The Moon Dust-DNA watches feature a lunar dial based on a mineral deposit including Moon dust, a 46 mm steel and titanium case, incorporating steel from the Apollo XI space shuttle, rusted steel paws including fragments of the Soyuz spacecraft and a strap composed of fibres from a spacesuit worn during the ISS mission. Pricing for the Moon Dust-DNA watches starts at $15,000 and goes as high as $500,000.
