Screenshot Captor Portable 3.08.01 / 3.29.01 Beta (Freeware)

Written by Gabriela Vatu on January 23rd, 2013

Without a proper tool, taking screenshots can be an annoying task. Screenshot Captor is a program that makes the entire process extremely easy.

The app comes with a simple interface and an intuitive layout. Not only does this app help you grab screen shots, but you can also edit the images with an array of tools.

In order to grab an image, you must simply press the “Print Screen” button on the keyboard. This prompts a frame that gives you several options to choose from, such as discarding the image, keeping it, printing it or saving it to disk.

Opting to keep the image and showing it enables you to use the image editor. Here, you can add text boxes, frames, a caption and arrows. Also, the picture may be cropped to a user-defined size. Several effects are available, such as blur, grey, dim, interlace and glow.

Some color adjustments may also be applied. For instance, you can modify the contrast and brightness levels, hue saturation and gamma values.
The program supports a wide range of file formats, such as JPG, GIF, TIF, PCX, PNG, BMP, PBM, PCX and PDF.

All in all, Screenshot Captor is a nice program that can be quite useful on numerous occasions. The wide palette of options sets it apart from other similar apps. Inexperienced users should find this tool to be quite easy to work with, thanks to the intuitive interface and clean layout.

Here are some key features of "Screenshot Captor Portable":

· Full set of scanner acquisition tools and scanner image correction.
· Perfect capture of Windows 7 partial transparency effects.
· The most powerful scrolling capture tool in the field.
· Easy automatic or on-demand uploading of screenshots to a wide variety of image hosting services (imageshack, flickr, ftp, etc.).

Portable Efficient Password Manager 3.10 Build 332 (Freeware)

This is the portable version of Efficient Password Manager - a tool that you can use to store your passwords in a secured environment.

Since installation is not necessary, you can place Efficient Password Manager on a removable device, plug it into any computer and directly run its executable file. What's more important is that your Windows registry keys will remain unchanged.

The interface of the application is plain and pretty intuitive. You can add a new entry by specifying its title, location, user name, account ID, password and comment.

But you can also set its priority level and manage entries according to their category (e.g. software registration code, FTP account).

In addition, you can check out a list of favorite URLs, use a comprehensive search function (along with cut, copy and paste), backup and restore your data, change the interface style, and more.

In "Options" you can specify the default view on startup, enable Efficient Password Manager to automatically run at system startup, allow multiple instances, enable to require login from minimized state, make file associations, modify fonts, and others.

Portable Efficient Password Manager uses a low-to-moderate amount of system resources, contains a well-written help file (too bad it doesn't have snapshots) and has a very good response time. The tool didn't freeze or crash during our tests.

On the other hand, the unregistered version is severely limited. For example, you cannot add attachments and links to entries, as well as create new groups. Other than that, we strongly recommend Portable Efficient Password Manager to all users.

Drink Light Bottle Cooler

To host a party that makes an impression is a difficult task; if you go the wrong way you could make completely the wrong impression! The decor you choose is a great way to create an ambiance or setting for your guests. Having your everyday lamp sat in the corner unfortunately doesn't quite cut the mustard when it comes to exciting talking points!

Shining like a beacon into the sometimes unfriendly world of contemporary design, the Drink Light Bottle Cooler offers a great alternative way to light up people's mood and at the same time display chilled bottles for parties.

Sat like a giant wine glass, the Drink Light Bottle Cooler illuminates your room with a comfortable ambiance, and has a deep bucket perfect for filling with ice and a few bottles of your favorite tipple.

This innovative illuminating champagne bucket is perfect for large events and parties. It includes energy saving bulb (1 x E27 – Max25W), sporting a solid polyethylene construction.

Designed by Jorge Najera, the Drink Light Bottle Cooler is 750 mm tall and has a diameter of 450 mm, weighing 6 kilograms. You can purchase it from Drink Stuff, for a bit over 270 pounds sterling, a sum that might seem a bit exaggerated fro such an item.

Taking into consideration its price tag, the Drink Light Bottle Cooler is probably better suited for a bar or restaurant, rather than a private home, that is. However, if eccentricity and money are two of your best assets, then the Drink Light Bottle Cooler is perfect for you. So, don't waste anymore time and go get your own Drink Light Bottle Cooler.

Apple iPod shuffle

Without the shadow of a doubt, Apple is the world's best-known manufacturer of portable multimedia players, its famous iPod series of devices becoming iconic for the concept of digital entertainment. One of the most important things Apple has tried (and actually, succeeded) with the iPod series is to pretty much cover all of the possible market segments, ranging from power users looking for a complete portable multimedia playback device to those people looking for a very small player they could listen music on while running.

This latter model is the Shuffle, which we'll actually talk about as follows. Initially released in January 2005 and updated once ever since, the Shuffle is a very simple player, which has been designed for maximum ergonomics in any conditions, whether the user is running, going to the gym or simply walking on the street.

One of the main feature that recommends the Shuffle as an “outdoorsy” and “sporty” player is its design in general and the “clip” attached to its back in particular. The clip makes it very easy for users to attach the player to their clothes or backpacks, while its very small size (27.3 mm x 4.12 mm x 10.5 mm) and low weight (just 15.6 grams) will ensure the fact that you won't even feel it's there.

The current iteration of the Shuffle is available in two storage version, namely 1 and 2 GB, respectively. This might not seem like much, but it's enough to store up to 250 or 500 songs in 128-Kbps AAC format, which is only one of the numerous music formats it supports: AAC (8 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3 (8 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4), WAV, and AIFF.

Like all iPods, this device offers a very intuitive control system in the form of a circular control pad. Working with the pad is a very easy task, since all the users have to do is simply click the center button to play and pause and the outer buttons to move back, skip forward, and adjust the volume.

The battery is pretty impressive as well, since it offers up to 12 hours of continuous playback after being charged for around 4 hours (full charge).

The iPod Shuffle sells for 49 and 69 US dollars, respectively, for which the users will get, beside the device itself, a pair of high-quality earphones and a dock for charging the battery/connecting to a computer.

Mad Catz Xbox 360 Arcade GameStick

If you're into Xbox LIVE Arcade games, then you might have realized that the standard Xbox 360 controller is not exactly the right tool for the job, and that's especially true for really old golden classics like Ms. Pac-Man. Mad Catz's Xbox 360 Arcade GameStick was designed to assist gamers with this kind of predicament and it turned out to be perfectly suited for such a purpose.

The most classically obvious feature of the controller is its top-buttoned joystick, looking just as it's supposed to, plus a 360-degree spinner and a 4-direction D-pad. As a failsafe for those gamers not really ready to play it all arcade-style, or for some games where a combination of styles may be required, the Xbox 360 Arcade GameStick comes with the normal Xbox 360 controls as well.

As for compatibility issues, the controller can be easily connected to Microsoft's console by means of a simple USB plug. Even if it looks blocky and massive, its color pattern proclaims it to be part of the Xbox 360 device family.

The joystick and the thumbstick have the same in-game effects, but in games like Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting, the former will give you one hell of an edge. The only real problem is to decide on the best way to handle the controller while playing: some users may find it's too large and squarish to hold in their hands as they would a normal Xbox 360 controller.

In fact, the real arcade feel comes only if you place it down on a table or some similar object; Mad Catz anticipated this, so they attached rubber feet on the bottom of the Xbox 360 Arcade GameStick. That may sound low-tech, but it's a really good thing to have stability while furiously yanking the joystick during a desperate fight with M. Bison.

ASUS Rampage II Extreme Motherboard

If you haven’t heard about ASUS by now, let me fill you in on the most important details. They’re good at developing motherboards. Always have been. And in the past few years the company has made it a tradition to release boards under the “republic of gamers” brand. These are meant to be top notch gaming enthusiasts motherboards that provide everything a mad overclocker could desire.

So when the time came to launch the new line of socket 1366 motherboards for the Intel Core i7 CPU, there was no doubt ASUS would enchant enthusiasts with another “republic of gamers” motherboard. This is how the Rampage II Extreme was born. A board with the most advanced technology the company has, powered by the Intel X58 chipset.

Besides the X58 feature specs, there are plenty of ASUS proprietary technologies integrated on the Rampage II Extreme. For overclocking headroom the company is using a dynamic multi-phase power system called Extreme Engine with ML Cap Design. It uses multilayered capacitors to ensure stable power supply in case of over voltages. This provides gamers with the ultimate overclocking advantage, allowing them to gain the higher edge against their opponents.

The BIOS Flashback feature allows users to save two different versions of BIOS settings. So you can have a profile for gaming (with overclocking at its max) and an entertainment BIOS for watching movies and listening to music.

CPU Level Up is like a software CPU upgrade. It actually uses an instant overclocking feature to raise the performance of your CPU. Users are shown their current CPU and offered a list of possible CPU upgrades. They just have to select a better performing CPU and the software does the overclocking for them.

The motherboard comes with an external LCD poster designed to display POST information if there are any problems at system startup. So, if any of the components fail, the user will know exactly which one to replace.

As gamers usually take proud in their rigs, ASUS have outfitted the Rampage II Extreme with EL I/O. This feature illuminates the back connectors of your PC so you can see where to connect your peripherals in the dark, and also provides a cool look.

GnomishGray Mar 18 2013

GnomishGray is a gray GTK3 and GNOME Shell theme, based on Adwaita, for those who prefer light GTK themes with neutral colors.

A GTK2 theme, based on Murrine, is also included but Murrine was not powerful enough to make GTK2 widgets very similar to GTK3 ones.

How to install?

http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Install-GNOME-Themes-in-Ubuntu-11-10-231213.shtml

About GNOME:

GNOME is an international effort to build a complete desktop environment—the graphical user interface which sits on top of a computer operating system—entirely from free software. This goal includes creating software development frameworks, selecting application software for the desktop, and working on the programs which manage application launching, file handling, and window and task management.

GNOME is part of the GNU Project and can be used with various Unix-like operating systems, most notably Linux, and as part of Java Desktop System in Solaris.

The name originally stood for GNU Network Object Model Environment, though this acronym is deprecated. The GNOME project puts heavy emphasis on simplicity, usability, and making things “just work”.
